Evaluation of my school magazine front cover.
My magazine is called Academy updates and is aimed at
children who attend the Nuneaton Academy who are aged 11-16. I have created my
front cover and contents page. I will first be describing the good and bad
about my front cover.
On my cover the main colour scheme throughout is white, black
and purple. I have stuck to this colour scheme although the colour purple on
the page are different shades. On my next attempt I will make sure all the colour purple are the same
shade, doing this next time will show consistency and will look more appealing
to the buyer/viewer.
My main image is of a young boy wearing the Academy uniform.
The image is centred in the middle of the page, the boy is also smiling this is
a good point as that it makes the viewer feel welcomed and at ease. The viewer
also gets I understanding of the magazine because they see a child wearing the
school uniform this informs the viewer that the inside consents will be about
the school and uniform. To improve the main image I would make the boy look
smarter and have the academy logo on his blazer more noticeable apart from that
I am happy with the image as that it is my first attempt.
I have included multiple sell lines to entice the viewer and
to inform them. Sell lines such as ‘top tips’ and ‘missing mascot’ are quick
and to the point they are also alliterations which makes the viewer interested
and curious about what these sell lines are about. I have included a picture
below the sell line ‘missing mascot’ I have done this because it gives the
viewer more information but doesn’t actually say it, this was done to make the
viewer feel a sense of accomplishment, which makes the viewer think they know
what has happen but they are unsure so they read on to find out if they are
correct. The anchorage text for is magazine cover is “tips on how to be a
teenager with Lewis” this clearly links to the cover photo, the audience can see this and understands
that the cover boy is called Lewis and that he is a teenager at the Nuneaton
Academy.
My own fault about the sell-lines is that each piece of
information has a different font size, type and colour. Comparing my font
styles against real magazines I can see that the information has to all have a
consistency and match to one another. Next time I will make sure that the
writing font and colour match the type of magazine I am creating. To improve my
magazine I need to include a slogan, skyline and puffs I will include this next
time so that the magazine looks more professional.
